Holiness (2)

  • We ended part 1 with 1 Corinthians 1:30 which stated “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin”. From that scripture we discovered that God is doing all the work to unite us with Christ, to make us pure and holy. Also, He freed us from sin and He did all of this for our benefit. Now lets continue on with more absolute proof that we are holy.

1 Corinthians 3:17. “God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple”.

God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple, so logic would bring you to the truth that you are holy.

1 Corinthians 6:11. “Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God”. No comment needed here.

Ephesians 4:24. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy”.

Paul and Peter had the same revelation. That we are holy. Notice how the scripture here written by Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit has the same theme as what Peter said in our opening scripture (1 Peter 1:15,16).

“Put on”. Don’t perform, work hard, stress out. Simply PUT ON your new nature created to be LIKE God – truly righteous and holy. TRULY!!!! Righteous and HOLY. How much clearer does it have to be?

Philippians 1:1. “This letter is from Paul and Timothy, slaves of Christ Jesus.I am writing to all of God’s holy people in Philippi who belong to Christ Jesus, including the elders and deacons”.

Philippians 4:21. Give my greetings to each of God’s holy people—all who belong to Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send you their greetings”.

Colossians 1:2. “We are writing to God’s holy people in the city of Colosse, who are faithful brothers and sisters in Christ. May God our Father give you grace and peace”?

Colossians 1:22. “Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault”. You are HOLY and blameless.

Hebrews 2:11. “So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters”. The ones He makes HOLY.

Hebrews 10:10. “For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time”.

It was God’s will for us to be made holy. It doesn’t say it was God’s will for us to work to get holy. It says made holy. How? By the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, ONCE FOR ALL TIME. Once means once. How can anyone get to the conclusion they can do anything beyond the sacrifice of Jesus’ body to try and become holy? Those who always ask what God’s will is, here it is in part. For us to be MADE holy. The question is are you going to yield to God’s will?

Hebrews 10:14. “For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy”.

How many offerings? ONE!!!! How long? FOREVER! We were MADE perfect, because we are those who are being made holy. Being made, not trying to make ourselves holy. WOW!!

Hebrews 10:29. “Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who have trampled on the Son of God, and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God’s mercy to us”.

What made us holy? The blood of the covenant. I mentioned earlier we would get to this one. This is a bit of a warning here, not to take this whole business of being made holy lightly. When we think we need to try and become holy on our own efforts, we are the ones being addressed in this verse.

Hebrews 13:12. “So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates to make his people holy by means of his own blood”.

By now if you’re not fully convinced by the truth of scripture that there is nothing you can do or need to do to become holy, then you are in deep bondage to religion and legalism. You are happy in your struggle.

In this teaching there is a mountain of evidence that you are holy. Use these scriptures to prove to others the hope that you have, not to condemn them for their wrong believing, but to convict them that they are righteous and holy. Not because you think so or say so, but because Holy Spirit anointed scriptural truths say so. Remember, in all things it's Just Jesus. Grace and Peace.
