Choices

Every day we make choices. Those choices might involve what we watch, listen to, say or do. Sometimes we do things because we think they are the right things. Sometimes we do things because we think that they will benefit us in some way. Sometimes we just do something in the spur of the moment without giving much or any thought to it before we act.

Sometimes, we realize, after we do things, that we made unwise choices. The choices we make can greatly affect us and others. I believe that all of us, at points in our lives, have regretted decisions that we have made. Time lost, is time that we will never get back. Some decisions, cannot be undone. There are consequences behind every decision, some good and some bad.

Many years ago, somebody came up with “WWJD.” It is an acronym that stands for “What Would Jesus Do?” It appeared on apparel and bracelets as a reminder to ask that before doing things. Actually, it was a great reminder to people to think about their choices and decisions based on what Jesus would do in a situation.

My questions to all of us today are:

Will this decision be one that will glorify God?

I Corinthians 10:31 says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (KJV)

Colossians 3:17, And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (KJV)

Will this decision bear good fruit for God through our lives?

John 15: 5-8 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” (KJV)

Will I be glad later that I spent time doing this?

Ephesians 5:15-17 says, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” (NASB)

May we all weigh our decisions and the choices we make in light of these verses so we glorify God, bear good fruit in our lives and redeem the time God has given us.
