There are things in the Bible that prove that God knew things mankind didn't at the time the Bible was written.  If you ask why that matters, I would tell you that it proves there is a higher being and that the Bible was inspired by God.  People have told me I'm simple minded for believing in the scripture which only goes to show you that they've never taken the time to study that book.  I'll try to give you some good examples:

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

The Lord knew that the blood carried the oxygen long before science said it did.

1 Corinthians 15:41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.

The Lord knew that the stars differed from one another long before science proved they were each made of different gases according to the light spectrum they put out.

Isaiah 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

The Lord knew before science proved it that the earth was round and that there was an atmosphere around it that made it livable.

Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The Lord knew about atoms which work according to the same structure as solar systems, long before science could prove it.

Revelation 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

Gold cannot be heated hot enough by normal means to make it completely pure and pure gold is not found in nature.  NASA was able to purify gold and they found that it is clear like glass.  Someone wanting to write a falsehood would never, back in those days, would have made such an unbelievable statement.

These are some examples of apologetics that I can think of at the moment.  As for the gospels, either they are truth, or else eleven men went to their unnatural deaths proclaiming them to be true.  Ask a bookie what the odds would have been on that.
